"Rome wasn't built in a day" is something we've all heard a thousand times, but when you stop to consider what it means, it has a very profound meaning to any long-term goal. Whatever your ideal weight is, it can be daunting to see the amount you have to lose as one big number. However, if you measure your progress in smaller milestones, you'll see your success snowball.
In the same way that a marathon is run one step at a time, weight loss is achieved one pound at a time and one good decision at a time. Some days it may be frustrating to not see progress as fast as you'd like to achieve it, but you have to remember that every decision you make - good or bad - will add up. So while you deserve to celebrate every 10 pound loss, celebrate every 5 pound loss, too. Celebrate every time you instinctively ask for dressing on the side or water instead of soda. Pat yourself on the back for every time you reach for a snack from the refrigerator's crisper drawer instead of the vending machine.
None of us can achieve our goal weight overnight, but by practicing healthy behaviors one at a time, they'll soon turn into habits that will steadily build amazing results!
